Acting sustainably: turning values into action

Acting sustainably is one of our core values, and we’ve been taking meaningful steps to truly embody it. It’s been a busy few months, from moving into our new home to joining forward-thinking climate initiatives and learning from like-minded businesses.
We’ve been sharing our journey on Linkedin, doing our best to stay accountable and encourage our network to act sustainably. But for those who might have missed, here’s a look at how we’ve been #ActingSustainably so far this year…

A fresh start

This year saw us celebrate a huge milestone – we put down permanent roots in our beloved Penarth and moved into a new home! It’s been an exciting fresh start, and making our office as sustainable as possible is a top priority.
Now in full control of our environmental impact, we’re creating a space that works better for our people and the planet. Our sustainability journey is a long-term one, but we’ve already been making choices that better reflect our values:
● Installed motion sensor and LED lighting to decrease unnecessary energy use
● Fitted a boiling water tap to save both water and power
● Chosen pre-loved equipment where possible, giving items a second life and reducing waste

Sustainable Business: Sustainable Planet

Jessica Hollyman, Operations Manager and resident sustainability champion, attended the Sustainable Business: Sustainable Planet event, hosted by South East Wales Business Climate Coalition.
The event brought together businesses from across South Wales to share insights, drive positive action, and explore how we can all contribute to a more sustainable future. Jessica was inspired by the ideas and strategies shared, which have helped inform how we act sustainably at TMPR. Her key highlights from the day include:
● Exploring how Wales can lead the global shift to sustainable business
● Hearing practical, realistic advice from SMEs actively reducing carbon emissions
● Networking with like-minded businesses, sharing inspiration and exchanging ideas

Taking action on plastic

With one million plastic bottles sold every minute, the need to reduce plastic waste is more important than ever. A huge part of our commitment to #ActingSustainably is reducing our single-use plastic, and we’ve taken two major steps to do just that.
First, we became a community refill station on the Refill app. Run by City to Sea, the app connects users with local spots to top up their water bottles for free. We’re proud to be helping to drive this movement forward in South Wales. If you find yourself in Penarth, feel free to drop into TMPR with your reusable bottle for a H20 top up.
We also became a Plastic Free Champion by joining Plastic Free Communities. Powered by Surfers Against Sewage, this movement works to tackle pollution and reduce single-use plastic waste. Based on our existing behaviour we qualified as a Silver Plastic Free Champion straight away, but we know there is much more we can do. This marks the beginning of a much bigger journey, and we already have plans to get to Gold status – watch this space!

Green Growth Pledge

TMPR has the Business Wales Green Growth Pledge, an official commitment to reduce our carbon footprint and impact on the environment. The pledge helps businesses in Wales take pro-active steps to improve sustainability efforts, alongside a community of organisations dedicated to a low carbon future.
The pledge isn’t just a badge – it’s a framework to stay accountable, map our progress and make real, measurable change. As part of our pledge, we’ll be working to:
● Use land, energy and water wisely by engaging in energy efficiency initiatives
● Prevent waste and pollution by providing minimisation training and reviewing current practices

What’s next?

As our sustainability journey progresses, we’re keeping the momentum going with even more plans to reduce our environmental impact and support our local community. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, but we know there’s more we can do.
