Welcoming Aoife Edwards from Cardiff University

The TMPR team welcomed Cardiff University second year student Aoife Edwards to the team this month, as part of our Grow Getters programme, which aims to support the next generation of communication professionals by creating work experience opportunities and opening career doors.

Below, Aoife reflects on her highlights from her 35-hour placement with our PR & Comms and Campaigns & Content teams:

Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to complete a work experience with TMPR. It has been a great experience and I have gained insight into the various things that the team do whilst getting to develop my skillset along the way.

In my second year at Cardiff University studying Journalism, Communications and Politics, I was eager to secure some hands-on experience in a professional environment. After seeing the opportunity advertised and doing some research into TMPR’s core values, I thought it would be a great match. With the interview going well, and the dates confirmed, I was excited to gain an understanding of what PR and marketing really means.

With a warm welcome, my first day began with the PR & Comms team. Steve ran me through a really insightful PowerPoint presentation which defined what Public Relations means and how it works in a B2B company like TMPR, before I was given the opportunity to have a first go at writing a press release myself.

One of the highlights of working with the PR & Comms team was getting to do some research involving the Senedd elections coming up in May. This was particularly engaging for me because of my interest in politics and the effort that goes into campaigning at all levels. Amongst other things, I also learned how to create a media list and drafted some LinkedIn posts. It was great to see PR in a business-to-business context and seeing the range of companies TMPR works with really reflected the ever-changing nature of PR.

For the next few days, I worked with the Campaigns & Content team developing and learning different skills. This included some video analysis, client research and drafting a case study for a recent project that TMPR worked on. It was really great to see how marketing works in a practical sense, and, similar to PR, I was intrigued by the diversity of specialisations within the team.

Overall, my experience at TMPR has been immensely rewarding. Not only has it refined my skills, but it has also provided me with valuable insight and perspective into how I would like to progress in my career and learning.

The team at TMPR could not have made me feel more welcome, and it was a genuinely lovely environment to get to be a part of.
