Will Senior joins from Cardiff University
As part of our Grow Getters programme, we were pleased to welcome Cardiff University third year student Will Senior to the TMPR team this month, continuing our commitment to supporting the next generation of communications professionals through meaningful work experience opportunities.
After his 35-hour placement with both our PR & Comms and Campaigns & Content teams, Will reflects on his highlights from his time at the agency:
During the Easter break, I was fortunate enough to complete five days of work experience across two weeks with TMPR. The experience has been thoroughly enjoyable and I have learnt real-world, transferable skills that I would not have been able to gain in the lecture hall.
As a third year student at Cardiff University studying Politics, Journalism and Communications, I was eager to transfer my university understanding of communications and marketing into a professional workplace. After I saw the Grow Getters programme advertised on Cardiff Student Futures and did some research into TMPR, I knew that it would be a great fit. After a successful interview, I was looking forward to starting in their Penarth office whilst on my Easter break.
After a very warm welcome, my first two days were spent with the Campaigns and Content team. I started with a real insight into what marketing is and how it works in a B2B agency, shared by Tom. After that, I was tasked with writing a mailer to celebrate the 15th birthday of TMPR. When writing the mailer, I began to understand the importance of being precise, proof-reading and using feedback to enhance the quality of work.
After the mailers were drafted, reviewed, corrected and redrafted, I moved on to researching the competition of a client that TMPR was looking to take on. Through this analysis, I compared what did and didn’t work for businesses when marketing themselves, and relayed these findings to the team. I found this rewarding as the tasks I was set contributed directly to the work of TMPR and will, in turn, help their client.
For the second part of my work experience, I was with Steve and the PR & Communications team. My first task was to draft three Linkedin posts and a press release for a client attending the CYBERUK 2026 security event. This piqued my curiosity as I have a keen interest in politics and defence, but also because of how much detail and hard work goes into helping these stories land in the fast moving news cycle. I was then tasked with creating a media list, this was especially engaging as it emphasised the scope of different companies that TMPR work with from beginning to end of projects.
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with TMPR. I have learnt a great deal about how B2B marketing and communications work from day to day. I would like to thank the team for not only making me feel as welcome as possible but also for making the experience very enjoyable and rewarding. This work experience developed my skills and has given me peace of mind about the future of my career post-university.
